Scotch College – Head of House

Scotch College Heads of House Refurbishment was the renovation of the school’s existing Languages Centre into new Home Rooms as part of the school’s plan to provide students with new Homeroom facilities. Main challenges onsite included working within a fully operational school environment and incorporating a state of the art fit out within the existing building structure. Despite COVID restrictions, Long Contracting coordinated with the school to adapt a staged handover that suited the school’s requirement. As the main activity space for students, we delivered a high end and comfortable space ready for the 2022 cohort to move in during their studies at Scotch College.

Bowens Warragul

Long Contracting were engaged to transform an existing Bunnings warehouse into a state of the art Bowens store. The scope of works included demolition of lightweight internal structures, erection of a 9m high cool room panel wall to divide the existing showroom, new joinery throughout, internal and external painting, boom gates and roller doors, an additional dispatch structure and landscaping. The works were completed in 10 weeks.

Foster Hydronic Heating Warehouse

Long Contracting was approached by ThreeC Architects for this landmark development through our relationship on previous projects. Delivering this high detailed, purpose-built warehouse, showroom and office space for industry leading hydronic heating and service company. Working closely with the architects and client resulted in a very specific, highly functional space to cater to our client’s needs. Key project risks overcome included: poor ground conditions, corner of busy roads, tram lines, HV power relocations, precast deliveries and dual footpath alignment installations. This building is architecturally stunning, and sure to stop people in the street.

Scott Grove

This residence nestles comfortable into the streetscape with subtlety, comprising a modern extension to the rear of the retained and refurbished existing house. Positioned on more than 1,200 square metres, the residence uses biophilic line-of-sight and makes full use of the depth of the property.
The home utilises the existing high ceilings within the front end of the home that houses the bedrooms and master ensuite and bathroom areas, while the rear extension boats a pitch roof to take in the extent of direct sunlight to the north throughout the day and includes the kitchen, dining, living areas and games room/exercise room. Internally, the home wraps around the existing elm tree making it a feature of the architecturally landscaped areas which include BBQ, alfresco and swimming pool. The interiors include an array of wall and floor feature stone, limestone floors throughout the main living areas, feature steel doors and large north facing full height glazing.

Scotch OSCA

Long Contracting were engaged by Scotch College to renovate and combine 3 houses and construct a new building at the rear of the property to create ‘OSCA House’. The buildings comprised of a new uniform shop, museum, office, kitchen, board room and archive storage areas. The archive store and museum were equipped with a gas suppression system to mitigate the risk of fire damage to the invaluable collection the school has. Working within old buildings is always challenging especially getting state of the art services to be integrated seamlessly however the end product provides a great area for ‘old boys’ to reminisce and current students to understand the great history Scotch College has.

St. Hubert’s Winery

Awarded High Commendation in the 2022 AIB Excellence in Building Awards (Click here to view).

Located at the gateway of the Yarra Valley, Long Contracting were tasked with the re-development of St Hubert’s Winery. This landmark project consists of an intricate and impressionable design, with no detail overlooked. The development consists of a multi-level cellar door with a curved trafficable green roof and amphitheatre, an open plan restaurant and a multi-use function centre. This project did not come without its challenges. Poor ground conditions and flood prone topography resulted in Long Contracting having to pivot away from traditional construction methods and adopt innovative techniques. The cellar door is encompassed by ascending shotcrete walls reaching a peak height of 7 metres. The facade of the building is clad in over 150 lineal metres of copper cladding that follows the curvature of the roof to create an “Eyebrow” aesthetic from the top of the winery. Inclement weather and COVID-19 meant that a  collaborative and flexible approach was adopted by the Long Contracting team. This approach resulted in this legacy project being completed on-time and to a formidable level of quality.

Urban Climb Blackburn

Alfred St Blackburn was a demolish and new build for an investment fund developer, working closely with their future tenant Urban Climb for a highly tailored rental facility. Urban Climb engaged Long Contracting separately on a separate contract for their integrated fit out. The project required a very tight integration of all structure, services, and site coordination for the install of specialised rock-climbing
structure – including the first Olympic Grade Speed Climbing Wall in the Southern Hemisphere.
The height of the building proved the project was not a conventional steel-clad warehouse, with challenges on site set up, building methodology, and programming. This was compounded with engineering issues, resulted with Long Contracting working closely with both clients, consultants, and contractor to resolve smoothly.

Seafield-Portsea

This historic property built circa 1875 was respectfully renovated back to its prime. Old render was removed from the walls revealing the beautiful local limestone. The works both externally and internally showcase the talent of stonemasons in construction of that era. Landscape of the exterior completed this transformation which now sits proudly amongst the local historical properties.

Winner of the Mornington Peninsula Heritage Award for Restoration in 2021.

Sayfa Warehouse

Long Contracting successfully carried out these works in 3 stages allowing the client to continue to operate at full capacity. Intricate works to the main warehouse included the removal of existing internal precast panels opening up the floor area and allowing the client to work more efficiently. The new 25m long canopy and roller door enhanced operational facilities further. Installation of precast wall panels increased the working height of the docking warehouse and brought it in line with adjacent building. The slab area was extended and two 8-meter-high speed doors were installed, which exited to the new canopy. The result increased the operational space of the docking warehouse from 380sqm to 800sqm. Landscaping works complete the project and included new steel boundary fencing with automatic gates, a rain-garden to the rear of the property and a new asphalt carpark. A hugely successful project, completed in 23 months.
